IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall Across Odisha Till May 2, Orange Warning Issued

Bhubaneswar:The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall across several districts of Odisha over the next few days, issuing an Orange warning for some areas.

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, and Dhenkanal districts on April 29. Some of these regions may also experience hailstorms, the agency warned.

On April 30, heavy rain may lash parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Puri, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Khurda districts, the IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar reported.

The wet conditions are expected to continue on May 1, affecting districts like Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Balasore, and Bhadrak.

Further, on May 2, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Nabarangpur districts.

In addition to these warnings, many parts of the state are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms between April 29 and May 4.

In the past 24 hours, several places including Rayagada, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, and Sambalpur have already recorded rainfall.

Meanwhile, the IMD stated that there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures across Odisha for the next five days. However, temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius thereafter.
