IMD Issues Yellow Warning for Odisha from August 5 to 9

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for several districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall from August 5 to 9, 2025.

According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning are likely to occur at one or two places across multiple regions during the five-day period.

District-wise Forecast:

  • August 5 & 6: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
  • August 7: Heavy rainfall has been predicted in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Other districts likely to experience stormy weather include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
  • August 8: Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda, while thunderstorms with lightning may affect the rest of the previously mentioned districts.
  • August 9: The Yellow Warning continues for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

The IMD has advised residents, especially in vulnerable and low-lying areas, to stay alert, avoid open areas during lightning activity, and take all necessary precautions to minimize weather-related risks.

Authorities are also monitoring the situation closely and have urged the public to follow official updates and advisories over the coming days.
