IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms Across Odisha Till Aug 8

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of ‘Yellow’ warnings for Odisha, predicting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the next several days. The alerts, which cover a wide range of districts, remain in effect through August 8.
According to the IMD’s mid-day bulletin, light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers are likely in several parts of North Odisha and isolated areas of South Odisha during this period.
On August 4, the IMD forecast thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds reaching 30–40 kmph at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
The warning extends on August 5 to include Rayagada and Koraput in addition to the previously listed districts.
On August 6, the alert zone widens further, covering Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri, along with earlier-affected areas. The department predicts continued thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph.
From August 7 to 8, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places across Odisha, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds.
The IMD has advised residents to remain alert, avoid open areas during lightning, and monitor local weather updates, as the conditions may cause temporary disruptions in daily activities.
