IMD Issues Red Warning for Heavy Rainfall in Four Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha, prompting the issuance of multiple weather alerts.

According to the forecast, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda districts have been placed under a red warning with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds expected.

An orange alert has also been issued for Puri, Khordha, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Cuttack, Koraput, and Nabarangapur, where heavy rainfall and gusty winds are likely at one or two locations.

Meanwhile, Balangir, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, and Malkangiri are under a yellow warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms. The IMD has further cautioned that isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Rayagada may witness thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching 30–40 km/h.

Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions to minimize risks arising from the adverse weather conditions.
