IMD Issues Rain, Thunderstorm Alerts for Odisha Till August 1

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow weather warnings for several districts of Odisha, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to August 1, 2025.

On July 31, an Orange warning—indicating severe weather conditions—has been issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Bhadrak. These districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph at several locations.

A Yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Angul, Deogarh, and Dhenkanal, where similar conditions may occur at one or two places. Isolated thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are also expected in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

For August 1, the IMD has issued a Yellow warning for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh, predicting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds at isolated places. Additional districts likely to witness similar weather include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

The IMD has not issued any warnings for the three days following August 1, indicating an expected improvement in weather conditions thereafter.

Authorities and residents in the affected districts have been advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions, especially in low-lying and vulnerable areas.
