IMD Issues Nowcast Warning for Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds in Several Odisha Districts

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in several districts of Odisha over the next three hours.

According to a nowcast warning issued by the IMD at 12:20 pm, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi districts are likely to experience moderate thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 40 to 60 kmph during this period.

In addition, the weather agency has issued a yellow warning for Balangir, Puri, Khordha (including Bhubaneswar), Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Angul, Jajpur, and Deogarh districts. These areas may witness light rain or thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at one or two places within the next three hours.

The IMD has advised residents in the affected districts to remain alert, monitor weather updates, and move to safer places if weather conditions worsen in order to avoid lightning-related risks.
