IMD Forecasts Low-Pressure System Over Bay of Bengal Around October 23

A low-pressure system is expected to develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining east-central parts around October 23, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather system is likely to travel in a northwesterly direction and may gradually gain strength.

In its latest bulletin issued at 5:30 AM on Wednesday, the IMD reported that an upper-air cyclonic circulation continues to persist over the Gulf of Thailand and neighbouring areas of Thailand and Myanmar.

The weather agency stated that the circulation is likely to move into the North Andaman Sea on Wednesday before proceeding west-northwestwards.

As the system advances, it is expected to trigger the formation of a low-pressure area over the southeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal around October 23.

The IMD further indicated that the developing system may move northwestwards and intensify in the following period. Its subsequent development and movement will be important to monitor for possible weather changes in the region.
