IGH doctors save child

Surjit Kumar Dhal,ROURKELA, JUNE 21: A team of doctors of Rourkela Steel Plant-run Ispat General Hospital (IGH) saved the life of seven-year-old girl Anamika Lakra who was brought to the hospital last week, with a tamarind seed stuck in her wind pipe. Daughter of Sushil Lakra and Mina Lakra of Kutia Village in Rajgangpur Block, the child was immediately admitted to the Pediatric Ward.

After the CT Scan, the child was taken to Operation Theatre immediately. A team of doctors comprising Dr. Gautam Dash, Consultant, ENT., Dr. D. Sahoo, Consultant, ENT. Dr. J Acharya, Joint Director, Pediatrics, Dr. P Ratha, Senior Deputy Director, Pediatrics, Dr. Sanjukta Panigrahi, Senior Deputy Director, Anesthesia, Dr. M Samantaray, Senior Consultant, Anesthesia, along with paramedical staff attended the case with utmost care. The doctors carried out the operation with the help of bronchoscopy under general anesthesia and were successful in removing the foreign body from the air way within a very short period of one hour.  After satisfactory post surgical report the child was discharged from the hospital.

Notably, the girl who hails from a non-entitled family, was taken to several reputed hospitals before being brought to IGH.

IGH, with its state-of-the-art facilities, has become a savior for many children having similar problems. Children with critical bronchoscopy problems are being referred by hospitals from Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand to IGH for treatment.
