Huge quantity of cough syrup seized in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Khandagiri police seized a huge quantity of cough during a raid on Khandagiri Police and arrested as many as two person form the spot.

The arrested persons have been identified as Sarat Kumar Paltasingh (57) and Sukanta Kumar Paltasingh (47). Both are the residents of Jagamara area.

Police also seized 33 bottles of Eskuf Cough Syrup (100 ml each), 28 bottles of Wincerex Cough Syrup (100 ml each) and Scooty bearing Regd. No. OD02BL4556 from the possession of the accused persons.

On being informed about the selling of contraband articles like Codeine cough syrups at near BMC Public Toilet near Khandagiri Hill by two accused person, the police team immediately conducted a raid and it is found that the accused persons were selling banned codeine Cough Syrup without authorization/ license.

As per the order of the Govt. of Odisha Health & Family Welfare Department vide memo No. 18148/H dtd. 29.08.16, codeine comes under the narcotic drugs and Codeine cough syrups which is an alkaloid derivative of opium which is Narcotics in Nature.
