Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 faces huge losses

Yash Raj Films is struggling with their recent release, War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. In spite of the star cast, the film has failed miserably at the box office, grossing barely more than Rs. 200 crore in the first week. For comparison, the cost of production of the movie was a staggering Rs. 400 crore. The Telugu version has been specially disappointing, grossing only Rs. 52 crore net till now, and is now netting no more than Rs. 1 crore a day.

The poor box office performance of the movie has prompted YRF to give Rs. 22 crore as compensation to Naga Vamsi, the distributor who acquired the rights for Telugu for Rs. 80 crore. The production company had hoped to get more than Rs. 100 crore from the Telugu states, but they would probably be lucky to get even half of it. The compensation deal is divided into Rs. 10 crore for Nizam, Rs. 7 crore for Andhra, and Rs. 5 crore for Ceded areas.

War 2 was anticipated to perform well in both the Hindi and Telugu versions, considering the star power put together by Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. But the global box office collections of the film are only about Rs. 300 crore up till now, with the Hindi version collecting more than Rs. 150 crore net in India. The Telugu version has been officially labeled as a disaster. With the failure of the film, YRF could be facing huge financial losses.
