Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Likely in Odisha from June 23

Bhubaneswar: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has issued a weather alert for several districts of Odisha, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning from June 23 through June 28.
According to the latest bulletin, the adverse weather conditions are being caused by a trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over central parts of south Uttar Pradesh to the Bay of Bengal. This trough runs through northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and north Odisha, reaching up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Over the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely at most places in South Odisha and North Coastal Odisha, and at several places in North Interior Odisha.
The Met Centre has also issued a warning for fishermen, advising them not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast on June 25 and 26, as squally weather conditions are expected. Wind speeds during this period may range between 35–45 kmph, gusting up to 55 kmph, with sea conditions predicted to be rough to very rough.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has urged local authorities and residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions to prevent weather-related incidents during this period.
