Heavy Rain: Schools Shut Across Odisha’s Sonepur District; Early-Opening Institutions Draw Parents’ Ire

Sonepur: The district administration on Friday declared a holiday for all government and private educational institutions across Sonepur in view of incessant rainfall over the last two days.
The decision was taken on the direction of District Collector Nruparaj Sahu to ensure the safety of students amid the prevailing weather conditions. Following the Collector’s instructions, Emergency Officer Chittaranjan Mishra informed the District Education Officer, who subsequently issued an order directing all schools in the district to remain closed for the day.

Despite the directive, several Shishu Vidya Mandirs, which begin classes as early as 6 am, had already opened before the closure order could be effectively implemented. Consequently, many students and their parents had to travel through heavy rain, causing considerable inconvenience.
The delay in enforcing the holiday order has drawn criticism from parents, who expressed dissatisfaction over the failure of some school authorities to promptly comply with the administration’s instructions.
