Heavy rain in Odisha to continue till September 3

Bhubaneswar: The rainfall in Odisha is likely to continue more and will extend till September 3 predicted the IMD.

The well marked low pressure over the Bay of Bengal is active now. This is gradually advancing towards the North western direction. As a result of this today low to moderate rainfall in Odisha.

The Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in the state were dampened due to the ongoing low pressure rains. Though people still thronged to puja mandaps for pandal hopping.

Similarly, yellow warnings have been issued to eleven districts for thunderstorm and lightning. The windspeed in these districts is expected to be between 30 to 40 kmph.

The IMD also said that the amount of rainfall will increase from August 31 and will continue till September 3.

Due to rains, water level in Subarnarekha river was flowing close to the danger mark. It is receding gradually but the plight of the locals continues. The danger mark of Subarnarekha river is 10.36 metre while the level at Rajghat is 9.84 metre.

The water level has receded but the trouble for the locals has not ended yet. The farmers are facing innumerable troubles due to the clogged waters. For the sixth time, as many as 40 villages of eight Gram Panchayats under Baliapala block have been severely affected.
