Heatwave Conditions Intensify Across Odisha; Talcher, Bhawanipatna Hottest at 39°C

Bhubaneswar: Rising temperatures continued to grip several parts of Odisha, with many towns recording maximum temperatures above 35°C, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

Industrial town Talcher and Bhawanipatna emerged as the hottest locations in the state, both registering a high of 39.0°C. Jharsuguda and Sonepur followed closely at 38.2°C, while Bolangir recorded 38.0°C. Angul reported 36.7°C and Sambalpur 36.4°C, reflecting intensifying heat conditions across western and interior regions.

The capital city Bhubaneswar recorded 35.3°C, slightly above normal, while Cuttack registered 34.6°C. Coastal areas remained relatively cooler due to maritime influence, with Balasore at 32.5°C, Chandbali at 33.2°C, and Paradip at 31.5°C.

Among other regions, Rourkela recorded 36.2°C, Sundargarh 35.0°C, and Baripada 34.0°C. Southern and hilly areas such as Koraput and Phulbani experienced comparatively moderate temperatures of 34.5°C and 34.3°C respectively.

Minimum temperatures across the state ranged between 18°C and 24°C. Cooler nights were observed in Rayagada and Phulbani at 18.0°C, while coastal and urban centres like Bhubaneswar (21.2°C) and Cuttack (20.4°C) recorded relatively warmer conditions.

The data indicates a clear concentration of heat in western and interior districts, with coastal regions experiencing comparatively milder temperatures. Weather experts noted that such patterns are typical during the pre-summer transition and may intensify further in the coming days.
