Heatwave Alert in Odisha: IMD Issues Yellow Warning for 7 Days

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for the next seven days across several districts of Odisha, warning that heatwave conditions are likely to intensify in the western and interior regions, while hot and humid weather will continue along the coastal belt.
According to the IMD forecast, coastal districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Puri, Khurdha, Nayagarh, Gajapati, and Ganjam will experience persistent hot and humid conditions on April 13 and 14.

From April 15 onwards, heatwave conditions are expected to begin affecting interior districts including Balangir, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur, while coastal areas will continue to face humid weather.
The intensity of the heatwave is likely to increase further between April 16 and April 19, spreading to additional districts such as Sonepur, Boudh, Angul, Nuapada, Nabarangapur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, and Mayurbhanj. Meanwhile, coastal districts are expected to remain under hot and humid conditions throughout the period.
The IMD has advised people to avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take necessary precautions. Farmers and outdoor workers have also been urged to remain cautious in view of the rising temperatures.
