Governor Urges Media to Promote Welfare Schemes for Public Awareness

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati on Friday urged media professionals to play a proactive role in promoting the welfare schemes of both the Central and state governments to help citizens become more aware of available benefits.
Speaking during an interaction with representatives of media organisations at New Abhishek Hall in Raj Bhavan, the Governor said, “Many citizens are still unaware of these schemes. If the media highlights them, it can significantly expand public awareness and help more people access these benefits.”

He emphasised that government welfare programmes—ranging from insurance and pension schemes to savings plans for children—play a crucial role in improving the quality of life by providing financial security and social protection. “Greater awareness can enable more people to benefit from these initiatives, ensuring social stability and well-being across families in the state,” he added.
During the session, Kambhampati also held discussions with journalists on several key state issues, including tribal development, education, infrastructure, rural upliftment, migration, and media safety.
Expressing confidence in Odisha’s potential to become a developed state by 2036, the Governor cited upcoming projects by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Indian Railways, along with proposed semiconductor projects and major investment proposals under the Utkarsh Odisha initiative. “I don’t see any reason why Odisha cannot become a developed state by 2036,” he remarked.
Calling for a focus on self-reliance, Kambhampati referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, urging all departments to strengthen delivery of services to meet people’s needs.
On the issue of rising crime, the Governor stressed the need for greater societal awareness to prevent offences. “We all have a responsibility,” he said, further highlighting skill development as a key strategy to address migration challenges and build a stronger workforce for Odisha’s future.
