Government Medicines Found Dumped on Roadside in Balasore, Probe Ordered

Balasore: A large quantity of government-supplied medicines was found dumped along the Srijanga–Rasalpur road under Remuna block in Balasore district, triggering concerns over negligence in the healthcare system.
The discarded medicines — including 50 to 60 bottles of folic acid syrup and iron tablets — were discovered just a few kilometres from the Srijanga Remuna Community Health Centre. Many of the medicines were reportedly still within their expiry dates, raising questions about why they were thrown away instead of being distributed to patients.

Local residents expressed outrage over the incident, calling for strict action against those responsible for wasting essential, life-saving supplies.
Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Dr. Pravat Kumar Behera confirmed that the administration has taken the matter seriously. “We received the information yesterday, and a team immediately visited the site for inquiry. They will submit a detailed report today, and appropriate action will follow,” he said.
He added that investigators will verify whether the medicines had expired and identify the individuals involved in their improper disposal.
