Girl Critical After Self-Immolation Attempt in Ganjam

Bhubaneswar: A young girl allegedly attempted self-immolation at Bhetanai village under Kotinada police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district, triggering concern in the area.

According to reports, the girl poured kerosene on herself and set herself on fire. Hearing her cries, family members rushed to her rescue and managed to douse the flames before immediately shifting her to Aska Hospital in critical condition.

Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later referred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Sources said the girl has sustained nearly 60 percent burn injuries.

The exact reason behind the extreme step is yet to be ascertained. Police have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
