Gautam Gambhir Under Pressure: Aakash Chopra

Former Indian opening batsman Aakash Chopra has raised doubts about head coach Gautam Gambhir’s future, stating question marks will increase over his stint in case the team does not do well during the current Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy match against England.
There is tremendous pressure on Gautam Gambhir,” Chopra added in a video on his YouTube channel. “The pressure is totally building up. If you analyze his performances in Test cricket and red-ball cricket, you will see that he has not won many matches. He has won 2 matches against Bangladesh and one against Australia. But we lost three against New Zealand, three against Australia and one against England. He has been losing and losing,” he further added.
Chopra feels Gambhir has been provided with all that he demanded by the selectors, right from his favorite players, and now its time that he starts producing results. “Because the selectors feel that whatever is being demanded by the team management, it is being provided. The kind of player you desire, the number of players you desire, and the player you are indicating are being provided.”. So, if that’s so, then you also have to deliver the results. Period. There is no excuse,” he said.
Gambhir’s Test record has not been great, with India winning only 3 out of 11 Tests under his stewardship. Whereas India’s white-ball cricket has not lost its magic, with the win in the 2025 Champions Trophy, their Test luck has not improved under Gambhir. If this series doesn’t go well, God forbid, I hope that this series goes well. I actually wish Indian cricket to do well. But if England series doesn’t go very well, then there will be a question mark — Where are they going and what are they doing?
” Chopra said, pointing to the pressure on Gambhir and the team. A comprehensive loss in this five-Test series would not just place India behind in their quest to earn a World Test Championship final spot but also call into question Gambhir’s coaching skills.
