Gang involved in looting ornaments in police disguise busted from Madhya Pradesh

Surjit Kumar Dhal,Cuttack, June 12: Commissionerate police has claimed to have busted an organized inter-state gang of looters indulged looting gold ornaments and valuables in disguise of police with arrest of its two member from Madhya Pradesh.
The arrested accused duo are Javed Ali(35) of Irani Mohalla and Sadik Ali(28) of Tower Mohalla in Madhya Pradesh.
Briefing media persons, ADCP Trinath Patel said, Annapurna Parida, a 76-year-old woman of Jobra had filed an FIR in Malgodown police station alleging that on May 13 at about 8.30AM, while she was performing morning walk, three youth who came in a bike and intercepted her near Jobra Durga Ghar.
Identifying themselves as the policemen on duty, they then asked to wear out the gold ornaments and advised her to keep the ornaments in a folded paper as given by them for safety and security.
The old woman then, took out her gold bangles and rings and gave them who kept those in a paper. After folding the paper, the accused persons then handed over to her another folded paper in which they had cunningly kept some broken glass.
After returning home, while she open the folded paper she found the broken glass instead of her gold ornaments.
Basing on the CCTV footage and some other technical aspects, a special team of Commissionerate Police could able to apprehend two of the four accused persons involved in the case.
The gang comprises mostly youngsters having good physique who accordingly made their costumes as policemen. The modus operandi of the gang is to identify themselves as policemen and to loot gold ornaments from the persons making morning and evening works in the pretext of their duty for safety of life and properties of senior citizens.
The arrested accused duo will be remanded in more than 15 cases in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Khurda district and effort is on to nab other member of the gang and receivers.
