Gajapati Woman’s Organs Give New Life to Others After Fatal Road Accident

Berhampur: In a profound act of humanity and compassion, 54-year-old Abala Pal from Khariguma village under Mohana police limits in Gajapati district has donated her organs after death, giving the precious gift of life to others in need.
Abala, an unmarried woman, met with a fatal road accident last Sunday while travelling to Cheligada village under R. Udayagiri police limits to attend her sister’s wedding. Her two-wheeler was hit by another vehicle, leaving her critically injured.
She was first taken to Cheligada, then Chandragiri Hospital, and later shifted to MKCG Medical College & Hospital, Berhampur. Owing to severe head injuries, she was referred to a hospital in Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment, where she succumbed to her injuries on Friday.
In a heartwarming gesture, her family members agreed to donate her kidneys and liver, saving multiple lives. Her act of generosity has been hailed as an inspiring example of selflessness, earning widespread admiration and respect.
Her mortal remains were brought back to Khariguma village in a government-arranged ambulance. As her body arrived, the entire village was overcome with grief and pride. Following government instructions, the Mohana Police offered a Guard of Honour in recognition of her noble contribution.
“We paid tribute to her extraordinary act of humanity by offering a Guard of Honour,” said the local police officer.
Abala’s family expressed deep pride in her final act of kindness and urged others to consider organ donation as a way to give life beyond death. They have also sought government support in the wake of their loss.
Through her selfless decision, Abala Pal’s legacy lives on — in the lives she helped save and in the enduring message that even in death, one can be a source of life and hope.
