Fresh outbreak of jaundice creates panic in Cuttack

Surjit Kumar Dhal, Cuttack, July 31: Fresh outbreak of jaundice has spread panic among the residents of Kesharpur and its adjacent localities in the Millennium City.
The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has confirmed one case in ward no 25 though more than 10 persons have been affected by the water borne disease in the Kesharpur and its adjacent Kansei Khana Gali, Akhada Gali localities.
Use of contaminated drinking water due to leakage in supply pipelines close to drains is stated to be the cause of resurgence of water borne disease.
The locals alleged that the civic body had failed to provide safe drinking water even though they had been alleging contamination of drinking water for the last few months
“28-year-old Abdul Asif of ward no 25 has been tested positive for jaundice on Monday,” said City Health Officer Umesh Panigrahi adding that water samples had been collected from the affected locality and the cause of resurgence of the waterborne disease was being examined.
“All necessary precautionary measures have been taken by CMC besides intensifying sanitation programme in the affected localities to check jaundice from spreading,” he said.
