Fresh Low Pressure to Trigger Heavy Rainfall in Odisha, IMD Issues Orange Warning

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha as a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.
“A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha–West Bengal coasts during the next 48 hours,” the IMD regional centre in Bhubaneswar said in its weather bulletin on Sunday.
According to the forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur districts on August 25, while Kandhamal and Gajapati districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy showers on August 26. An Orange warning has been issued for these areas.
In addition, several districts including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Ganjam, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Bargarh, Kendrapara, and Jagatsinghpur may witness heavy rainfall till August 30, for which a Yellow warning has been issued.
Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are also expected across many parts of the state until August 31, the IMD added.
