Fresh Low Pressure to Bring Heavy Rainfall in Odisha from September 1: IMD

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal around September 2, which is expected to trigger widespread rainfall across Odisha.

According to the forecast, several districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain for at least two days starting September 1. On that day, districts such as Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Koraput may receive heavy to very heavy showers.

On September 2, the intensity is expected to increase over Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Kalahandi, for which the IMD has issued an Orange warning.

In addition, districts including Rayagada, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Balangir, Nuapada, Sundargarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Koraput, and Kalahandi are likely to witness heavy rainfall till September 4, the IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar said in its bulletin.

The department further predicted that light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are very likely to occur at many places across Odisha till September 7.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in several districts, while heavy to very heavy showers lashed Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Kendrapara, Keonjhar, Sonepur, and Sambalpur.
