Former legislator held for hurling eggs at CM’s carcade

Surjit Kumar Dhal,Balangir, April 16: Police on Tuesday arrested former Balangir MLA Balgopal Mishra, his son and several supporters for allegedly hurling eggs at Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s carcade at Salebhata in Loisingha Assembly constituency the previous evening.

According to sources, the eggs were hurled by Mishra, his son and several of their supporters when the Chief Minister was on the way for Bargarh to campaign for his party candidates.

Mishra, notably, had earlier warned the Chief Minister not to hold roadshows in Salebhata area.

Though it was not known whether the eggs hit the hi-tech campaign bus, in which the Chief Minister was travelling, some had landed on the vehicles which were following it.

Tension prevailed in the area after the incident as the police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the agitators.

Police later conducted flag march to restore normalcy in the area.

Balgopal Mishra, his son and some of his supporters were detained at the Town Police Station for interrogation. They were later arrested on Tuesday.
