Former ITI Principal Gets 3 Years RI in Disproportionate Assets Case

Phulbani: A Special Vigilance Court in Phulbani on Monday sentenced Saroj Kanta Ray, former Principal of Government ITI, Phulbani, to three years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a disproportionate assets (DA) case. The court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 on him.
Ray, who is currently serving as a Lecturer in Electronics at Government Polytechnic, Dhenkanal, was convicted under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 109 of the Indian Penal Code, based on a chargesheet filed by Odisha Vigilance.
The conviction stems from a vigilance investigation which revealed that Ray had accumulated assets significantly beyond his known sources of income during his tenure as Principal at Government ITI, Phulbani.
Following the verdict, Odisha Vigilance announced that it would seek approval from the competent authority to initiate Ray’s dismissal from government service.
The case marks another step in the state’s continued crackdown on corruption and misuse of public office by government officials.
