Former CMC corporator accused of abusing minor sexually

Surjit Kumar Dhal, Cuttack, Aug 17: A former Corporator of Ward-41 of Cuttack Municipal Corporation(CMC) Hemant Kumar Behera is in soup after allegation of sexual abuse levelled against him by a minor girl.

In her FIR filed in Malgodown police station, the 17-year-old victim, a +2 student, has accused Behera of abusing him sexually in his house at Jobra Das Sahi.

Police quoting the FIR said, the victim had gone to the Behera’s house in connection with issuance of a birth certificate of her relative from the civic body on Wednesday night at about 9 PM while the 55-year-old accused embraced and started abusing her sexually. The victim, somehow managed to escape from his clutches and informed her  parents who later filed an FIR in this connection on Thursday.

Acting on the FIR a case has been registered and investigation is on.Necessary medical examination of the victim has been conducted and her statement recorded under section 164 of CrPC at the special designated court dealing with cases registered under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, informed IIC, Rabi Narayan Bhanja.The accused former Corporator, however, is absconding, he said.
