Foreign Tourist Enters Lingaraj Temple, Rituals Delayed

Bhubaneswar: In a serious breach of temple protocol, a foreign tourist from Rome was found inside the sanctum premises of the 11th-century Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, triggering religious concerns and delaying daily rituals for over three hours.

The tourist was reportedly spotted taking photographs near the Achyuta Kahanda area of the shrine, a zone restricted to non-Hindus. Security personnel and temple servitors quickly apprehended him, leading to his removal from the premises.

As per established temple tradition, the sanctity of the temple was considered compromised, prompting immediate purification rituals. Priests performed a special cleansing ceremony using lime water before resuming the daily worship activities.

The tourist has been taken into custody, and local police are currently verifying his documents, including his passport. Officials confirmed that further action will depend on the outcome of the verification process.

The incident has sparked outrage among temple servitors and authorities, who are demanding heightened security measures and stricter access control to prevent such violations in the future. Temple administration is expected to hold a review meeting to assess the security protocols currently in place.
