Food Delivery App Leads Police to Woman’s Body in Pune; Family Believed She Was in London

Pune, Oct 31: In a shocking incident, a 34-year-old woman, believed by her family to be pursuing an MBA in London, was found dead inside a locked apartment in Pune after online food delivery transactions helped police trace her location.
The deceased has been identified as Mugdha Avinash Deshmukh. Her decomposed body was recovered from a locked flat in an apartment complex at Gahunje in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Mugdha had moved to the UK in July 2025 following her husband’s death. She remained in regular contact with her parents through video calls and messages, giving them the impression that she was still living in London.
However, she had reportedly returned to India secretly towards the end of August 2026 without informing her family. Her phone was switched off from October 24, prompting her parents to lodge a missing complaint.
The mystery began to unravel when her father checked her bank account and noticed transactions involving local food delivery and online platforms between October 8 and 25. Further inquiries with her friend in London revealed that she had already returned to India.
Using the online transaction details and food delivery records, the Crime Branch traced her location to the apartment in Pune. Police broke open the safety door of the locked flat and found her decomposed body in the bedroom.
Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have registered an accidental death case and initiated an investigation. No external injury marks were reportedly found on her body. Her viscera samples have been sent for forensic examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Further investigation is underway.
