Firing in Railway colony of Jharsuguda over Ganesh idol immersion

Jharsuguda: In a shocking incident, unidentified miscreants opened fire in the Railway colony area in Jharsuguda district and shot as many as 5 to 6 rounds of firing late on Saturday night. This has triggered a panic among the residents.

According to information, during the Ganesh festival immersion procession yesterday, the residents of Railway colony, identified as Susanta Suna and Sohan Suna had an altercation with some unknown youths.

Following the brawl in the evening, some unidentified miscreants opened fire in his house on Railway colony of Jharsuguda.

Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police (SP) and SDPO visited the site and started an investigation. The Government Reserve Police (GRP) also reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter.

No casualties have been reported. They probably wanted to create a scare in the family.

In another incident in Hinjilicut block of Ganjam district, a youth was brutally killed following an altercation during the Ganesh idol immersion.

He was hacked to death with an iron road and was found lying in a pool of blood. The locals rushed him to the Hinjili Community Health Centre (CHC) where doctors declared him dead.
