Farmer Ends Life Over Loan Burden in Balangir

Bhubaneswar: A farmer in Balangir district allegedly took his own life by consuming poison, reportedly due to mounting debt and crop loss.

The deceased has been identified as Durga Bhoi, son of Parameswar Bhoi, a resident of Karasuda village under Titilagarh block.

According to sources, Durga had suffered heavy crop losses this year and was struggling to repay a group loan. His cousin, Bhaskar Bhoi, stated that the financial strain had left him under severe mental stress.

Durga reportedly consumed poison on Tuesday. He was rushed to Sindhekela Hospital and later shifted to Titilagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital. Doctors then referred him to Balangir District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), but he passed away on the way. He was declared dead upon arrival.
