Ex-Sub-Treasury Clerk Held for ₹68.85 Lakh Fraud

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested Manoranjan Sahoo, a former Senior Clerk of the Hindol Sub-Treasury in Dhenkanal district, for allegedly misappropriating government funds amounting to ₹68.85 lakh.

According to an official release, Sahoo had been absconding for two years to avoid Vigilance action. He is accused of fraudulently withdrawing funds meant for family pension beneficiaries and diverting the money to his own bank account as well as to the accounts of his relatives. The total misappropriated amount has been calculated at ₹68,85,497.

After the fraud came to light, a case was registered at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 32/2024) under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Sahoo is scheduled to be produced before the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal on Saturday.

Odisha Vigilance confirmed that further investigation is in progress.
