Ex-Sub Inspector Arrested in 2017 Death Case of Criminal Akash Mehuria

Jeypore: The Crime Branch has arrested former Sub-Inspector (SI) Shiv Shankar Sahu in connection with the 2017 death of notorious criminal Akash Mehuria.

Sahu was taken into custody while attending a Ganesh Puja in Kalahandi district and later produced before a court in Jeypore. The magistrate remanded him to Jeypore jail.

Mehuria had died after falling from his vehicle during a police chase. Following his death, Mehuria’s mother lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission, leading to a case being registered against several police officials, including then-Town Police IIC Tapan Rath, SI Dholar C, and SDPO Rajendra Saini.

Sahu, who was the investigating officer in the case, was charge-sheeted and subsequently suspended from duty. His arrest marks a significant development in the long-pending case.
