Er. Ashok Basa Named WFEO Internal Auditor

Paris/Bhubaneswar: Er. Ashok Basa, past president of the Institution of Engineers (India) and an alumnus of the former Regional Engineering College (REC), now National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, has been appointed as the Internal Auditor of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) for the 2025–2027 term.
The appointment to the honorary position was made by the Executive Board of WFEO in accordance with its Rules of Procedure. In its official communication, the Executive Board cited Er. Basa’s experience, professionalism, and dedication to the engineering community as key factors behind his selection. His term began on December 12, 2025, and is renewable as per WFEO statutes.
Founded in 1968 under the auspices of UNESCO, WFEO is the world’s largest international professional body of engineers and engineering organizations, with members from nearly 100 countries. The federation plays a significant role in promoting engineering as a catalyst for sustainable development, good governance, and global cooperation.
Er. Basa’s appointment is particularly notable as he is the first Indian to be named Internal Auditor of WFEO since its inception. Earlier, he served as the Executive Vice President of WFEO from 2022 to 2025, becoming the second Indian to be elected to the federation’s global leadership. He also chaired the WFEO Strategic Planning Committee during the periods 2022–2023 and 2023–2025.
As Internal Auditor, Er. Basa will be responsible for independently reviewing and assessing WFEO’s internal functions, including financial processes, compliance systems, and governance mechanisms. He will submit reports to the Executive Board and contribute to strengthening transparency and accountability within the federation, while participating as a non-voting member of the Executive Board and Executive Council.
The appointment has been widely welcomed by the engineering fraternity in India and is being viewed as recognition of Er. Basa’s sustained contributions to engineering leadership at both national and international levels.
