Environmentalist Medha Patkar detained by Rayagada police

Rayagada: In a shocking incident, environmentalist Medha Patekar was detained by the Rayagada police on Wednesday. The police is enquiring her by keeping her at an undisclosed location.
According to information, she was going to lead a protest in Sunger Hatapada under Kashipur block on the occasion of World Environment Day today. She was here to speak at a protest rally against the Sijimali mining.
She would have led the movement against the mining along with the ‘Maa Mati Mali Surakshya Mancha’ at Sunger. The police had reportedly detained her in order to disallow her from going for the protest march.
It has been reported that several environmentalists and protestors were detained under the directive of District Magistrate by the Rayagada Police.
Others like Prafulla Samantara and farmer leader Lingaraj, activist Lingaraj Azad and activist Narendra Mohanty were also to attend the meeting.
However, we could get the response of the police. Reportedly the Additional District Magistrate Nabin Chandra Nayak (in-charge) and 8 platoon police force have been deployed.
