Elephant carcass found in Muribahal Forest

Balangir: Another elephant death has been reported in Odisha. The carcass of a female elephant was found near Jamaleswar village under the Muribahal Forest Range in Balangir district. The age of the dead elephant is estimated to be around 2-3 years.
Locals informed the Jauntra Forest Section after spotting the elephant’s body today. Forest Department officials reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
A herd of about 60 elephants had been moving within the Muribahal Forest Range over the past year, while currently, only 16 elephants are reported to be in the area.
The elephant herd had moved towards the Titilagarh forest last night and returned to the forest area. Villagers discovered the elephant’s death during the night and informed the Forest Department.
Officials arrived at the site and began an inquiry, but the cause of death remains unclear.
The Muribahal Ranger stated that the exact reason will be known after the investigation is completed.
