Elephant Calf Rescued from Fishing Net at Rengali Dam

Deogarh: Forest officials on Friday successfully rescued a one-month-old elephant calf that was trapped in a fishing net at Rengali Dam in Chasagurujanga village under the Thianal Section of the Barkote range in Deogarh Forest Division.

According to officials, the calf got entangled in the net while attempting to cross the reservoir along with its herd. Upon receiving information about the incident, a forest department team rushed to the spot and carefully cut the net to free the young elephant, ensuring it was not injured during the operation.

After the rescue, the calf was placed under medical care and is being closely monitored by forest officials. The department stated that the elephant herd has been staying in the area for the past few days, and necessary measures are being taken to protect the calf until it safely rejoins the group.

Forest officials have also cautioned local fishermen against leaving nets unattended in wildlife movement zones, as such incidents pose a serious threat to animals.
