Election Commissioner visits Odisha

(Dev K Mohanty from Bhubaneswar,February 15,2019): Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa visited Odisha to preview poll preparedness.His two-day visit ended Friday.He met representatives of political parties to know about their suggestions regarding holding of free and fair elections.

He also reviewed the work of District Election Officers,Police authorities and the Chief Secretary to assess poll preparedness.

Major issues discussed were:electoral roll,polling  arrangements ethics,awareness of EVM machimes,law and order etc.

Party representatives pointed out non-inclusion of names in electoral roll.

Proximity  of polling booths to cluster of voters,specially weaker sections ,was  a suggestion made by party representatives.Another suggestion was to introduce one more line of identification other than voter slip.Allegations of party machinery being used for propaganda was also pointed out.
