Elderly Woman Killed in Elephant Attack in Angul

Bhubaneswar: A 72-year-old woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Sankhapur village under Bantala tehsil in Angul district on Monday, highlighting growing concerns over human–elephant conflict in the region.

The deceased has been identified as Ichha Dehuri, a resident of Sankhapur village in the Angul Forest Division. According to reports, Dehuri had gone behind her house early in the morning when she was attacked by a wild elephant. The animal allegedly dragged and trampled her, leaving her critically injured.

Family members rushed her to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where doctors declared her brought dead.

With the latest incident, the number of fatalities caused by elephant attacks in the Angul Forest Division has risen to three in the past 14 days. The recurring incidents have sparked concern among local residents, who have urged the Forest Department to take urgent measures to prevent further loss of life.
