Elderly Man, 102, Attacks Daughter-in-Law With Axe, Found Dead Later

Jagatsinghpur: A family dispute in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district ended in tragedy after a 102-year-old man allegedly attacked his daughter-in-law with an axe and was later found hanging at his residence.
The incident took place late on Friday night at Mallick Sahi in Bhutamundai village under the jurisdiction of Paradip Lock Police Station. The deceased has been identified as Batakrishna Mallick (102).

According to police sources, an argument had reportedly broken out earlier in the day between Batakrishna Mallick and his daughter-in-law over a family-related issue. The verbal altercation is believed to have escalated later in the night.
Police said that while the woman was asleep, the elderly man allegedly attacked her with an axe, leaving her seriously injured. Family members immediately rushed the injured woman to Kujang Medical for treatment. After receiving medical attention in critical condition, she later returned home.
However, upon returning, the family discovered Batakrishna Mallick hanging inside a semi-constructed house located in the backyard of the residence.
Family members suspect that the elderly man died by suicide after carrying out the attack. However, police said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident will be confirmed only after a thorough investigation.
On receiving information, a team from Paradip Lock Police Station, along with a scientific team, reached the spot and initiated a detailed probe. The suspected weapon used in the attack and other materials were seized from the scene.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events that led to the tragic incident.
