ECoR Crosses 100 MT Freight Mark

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has become the first railway zone in the country to surpass 100 million tonnes (MT) of freight unloading in the financial year 2026-27, according to an official statement issued.

ECoR achieved the milestone 17 days ahead of the corresponding period last year. Freight unloading has recorded a 9.8% increase compared with the same period of FY 2025-26, aided by faster rake handling and improved wagon turnaround.

The release of BOXN wagons rose by 7.3%, while BOBRN wagon release increased by 9.8%. ECoR also reported a 3.9% rise in freight loading and a 3.2% increase in freight earnings during the period.
The railway zone said the improved performance would help speed up the movement of essential commodities and industrial raw materials, while ensuring more efficient use of railway assets. The milestone also reflects ECoR’s focus on improving freight operations, reducing turnaround time and strengthening the efficiency of its logistics network.
