EC Extends Special Intensive Revision by Seven Days Across 12 States and UTs

Kolkata: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced a seven-day extension of the ongoing three-stage Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and union territories.
According to the revised schedule, the enumeration period—covering the collection and digitisation of voters’ enumeration forms—has been pushed from December 4 to December 11. The deadline for the rationalisation and re-arrangement of polling stations has also been shifted to the same date.

The publication of the draft electoral roll, earlier set for December 9, will now be released on December 16. Following this, the period for filing claims and objections will be open from December 16, 2025, to January 15, 2026.
The notice phase, which includes issuance, hearing, verification, and decisions on enumeration forms as well as disposal of claims and objections by Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), will be conducted between December 16, 2025, and February 7, 2026.
The new date for checking the health parameters of electoral rolls and obtaining ECI approval for final publication has been scheduled for February 10, 2026, with the final electoral roll set to be published on February 14, instead of the earlier date of February 7.
Opposition parties, particularly the Trinamool Congress (TMC), have consistently alleged that the SIR exercise is being carried out in haste under pressure from the BJP. Reacting to the extension, a TMC leader from West Bengal, speaking anonymously, said the additional seven days were “just an eyewash.”
He added that any formal response would come from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
Further political reactions are awaited.
