East Coast Railway Achieves Record ₹23,000 Crore Freight Earnings, Tops Indian Railways in Loading

Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway (ECoR) has created history by recording its fastest-ever ₹23,000 crore originating freight earnings, reinforcing its position as one of the top-performing zones of Indian Railways in freight operations.
The milestone was achieved in a record 294 days during the current financial year 2025–26, on January 19, 2026—27 days earlier than the previous financial year 2024–25, when the same figure was reached in 321 days. The achievement reflects ECoR’s sustained growth, operational efficiency, and strong freight base.

Strong Growth in Earnings
Up to December 2025, East Coast Railway’s total originating earnings rose to ₹23,959 crore in 2025–26 from ₹21,543 crore in the previous year, registering an overall growth of 11.21 per cent.
Passenger earnings increased from ₹1,764.32 crore in 2024–25 to ₹1,835.91 crore in 2025–26. Goods or freight earnings witnessed a significant jump from ₹19,482.63 crore to ₹21,749.38 crore, underlining the zone’s dominance in freight movement. Sundry earnings also saw a sharp rise from ₹155.95 crore to ₹239.15 crore, indicating improved ancillary revenue streams.
Number One Zone in Freight Loading
ECoR has also emerged as the Number One Zone in Indian Railways in terms of freight loading up to December 2025. The zone achieved freight loading of 209.97 million tonnes (MT) during the period.
This marks an absolute increase of 21.33 MT compared to 188.64 MT in the corresponding period last year, translating into a year-on-year growth of 11.31 per cent.
Officials attributed the strong performance to continuous monitoring, innovative operational practices, and the dedicated efforts of railway employees. The achievement underscores East Coast Railway’s pivotal role in strengthening the national freight economy and supporting industrial growth in its hinterland.
