Durgapur Gang-Rape Case: Victim’s Friend Arrested, Total Arrests Rise to Six

Bhubaneswar/Durgapur: In a major breakthrough in the Durgapur gang rape case, police have arrested the victim’s friend, bringing the total number of arrests to six. The accused, identified as Saddam, will be produced before the court today.
The arrest was made by the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate as part of the ongoing investigation into the alleged gang rape of a second-year medical student.
Meanwhile, police have initiated a crime scene reconstruction to better understand the sequence of events on the night of the incident. A team led by Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Gupta visited the spot on Tuesday to recreate the crime scene, aiming to gather crucial evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
According to reports, the arrest of the victim’s friend has added a new dimension to the case, as investigators continue to piece together the roles of each accused. Police officials said further details about the investigation will be shared soon.
The incident took place on October 10, when the second-year MBBS student of a private medical college in Durgapur was allegedly gang-raped near the college campus. The crime reportedly occurred when she had gone out with her friend for dinner.
Authorities have assured that all efforts are being made to ensure a thorough and fair investigation, and to bring all perpetrators to justice.
