Dr Satyajit Naik Reviews Security Arrangements for Forthcoming Festivals

In anticipation of several major festivals to be observed across the seven districts of Central Range over the coming weeks, the Central Range Police have stepped up their preparedness to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations. A detailed review meeting was held under the leadership of Dr. Satyajit Naik, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Central Range, to evaluate law and order measures ahead of the festive season.

The upcoming celebrations include Dol Purnima (3rd), Holi (4th), Eid-ul-Fitr (21st), Rama Navami (27th), Hanuman Jayanti (14th April), and Maha Vishuba Sankranti. These occasions are expected to draw significant participation in both urban and rural areas. Considering the scale and importance of these events, the IGP instructed all District SsP to prioritise public safety and maintain communal harmony.

The review meeting, conducted virtually, was attended by District SsP and senior officers of Central Range.

During the discussions, the IGP underscored the necessity of comprehensive security measures, particularly in sensitive zones and along religious procession routes. District police have been directed to enhance patrolling, intensify vehicle checks, and keep strict surveillance in vulnerable areas. Adequate force deployment during foot processions and motorcycle rallies has been mandated to prevent any untoward incidents. Special focus has also been placed on deploying lifeguards at Puri Sea Beach and other sacred water bodies to safeguard devotees.

Acknowledging the impact of social media, the IGP ordered continuous 24×7 monitoring of digital platforms to curb rumours, misinformation, and provocative posts. District cyber cells have been tasked with maintaining constant vigilance and initiating prompt action against those attempting to disrupt communal peace.

Additionally, District SPs have been advised to reinforce intelligence collection, ensure the installation and proper functioning of CCTV cameras at critical urban locations, and keep Command and Control Centres fully operational. Revitalising peace committees through engagement with community leaders and public representatives has been stressed. Effective coordination with the Civil Administration, Fire Services, and Health departments has been highlighted as essential for orderly celebrations.

The IGP further directed strict implementation of traffic regulations under Operation Jeevan Suraksha across Central Range, decisive action against drunk driving, and strict measures to control DJ sound pollution during festivities. Preventive steps against habitual offenders and known troublemakers have also been emphasised as part of a proactive policing strategy.

Reaffirming the need for vigilance and readiness, Dr. Naik instructed all SsP and senior officers to remain alert and prepared to respond swiftly to any emerging situation. Through coordinated efforts across districts, Odisha Police remain committed to ensuring that the upcoming festivals are celebrated in an environment of peace, harmony, and security.
