Double encounter in Angul leaves two gold looters injured

Angul: In its bid to control crimes in the district, Angul police today carried out a double encounter
near Handapa forest under Handapa police station which left at least two gold looters injured.

The two accused injured in the encounter are Sachin Gajge and Prakash Madane from Maharashtra.

According to sources, police have carried out an encounter in self-defense. Sachin was shot in the right leg while Prakash was shot in the left leg.

According to information, five looters had looted a huge quantity of gold and silver ornaments from the Sri Balaji Gold Refinery in Hattotachak, Talcher yesterday and fled.

After this, the police have cordoned off all the entrances of the district to arrest the criminals.

When the police chased them near Handapa, the accused persons opened fire on the police. Two accused were injured in the police’s retaliatory firing.

The injured accused persons were admitted to the Angul district headquarters hospital. But later were shifted to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital as their condition became critical.

Further probe into the matter is underway.
