Dhenkanal Ex‑Revenue Inspector Sentenced 2-Yr Jail in Bribery Case

Odisha Vigilance secured the conviction of Ms Pravati Swain, Ex‑Revenue Inspector (RI) of Sadangi Circle under Gondia Tahasil, Dhenkanal district, in a bribery case.
On May 18, 2026, the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Dhenkanal, sentenced her to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine after finding her guilty under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d)/7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Swain had demanded and accepted Rs 5,000 from a complainant to submit an enquiry report for the issuance of a legal heir certificate in favour of his deceased mother. Odisha Vigilance had charge‑sheeted her in the case, leading to the conviction.
Officials confirmed that Vigilance will now move the competent authority to dismiss Ms Swain from service following the judgment. The conviction marks another significant step in the state’s ongoing drive against corruption in public offices.
