Dharmendra Pradhan: Odisha’s Son Driving Key National Reforms and State Development

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan continues to emerge as one of the most influential leaders from Odisha, strengthening his position both at the Centre and within the state. Known widely as “Odisha’s son,” Pradhan has played a pivotal role in major national reforms while consistently championing Odisha’s development needs.

As the Union Minister for Education and Skill Development, Pradhan has been at the forefront of implementing the National Education Policy (NEP). Under his leadership, the Centre has focused on expanding digital learning, establishing new research infrastructure, and improving employability through skill-based programmes. His emphasis on future-ready education has led to the growth of IITs, IIITs, and skill hubs across the country.

Pradhan has also been instrumental in expanding India’s skill development network. He oversaw the expansion of LPG coverage through the Ujjwala Yojana and pushed for a gas-based economy, which contributed to energy access and industrial growth across eastern India, including Odisha.

Despite his national responsibilities, Pradhan has consistently advocated for Odisha’s growth. He played a key role in projects such as the Paradeep Refinery, national highway expansions, central education institutions, and new skill development centres in the state. He has also worked to promote Odia language, culture, and Jagannath heritage at the national and international level.

With an active public presence and frequent engagement with students, industry bodies, and community groups, Pradhan has built a reputation as a responsive and energetic leader. His influence continues to grow within Odisha, where he is seen as one of the key faces shaping the state’s political and development narrative.
