Dense Fog Disrupts Life in Bhubaneswar; IMD Issues Yellow Warning

Bhubaneswar: A thick blanket of fog engulfed the capital city early Tuesday morning, severely disrupting normal life and reducing visibility to very low levels.

Major roads, residential localities and highways were covered in dense mist, making commuting difficult for office-goers and early morning travellers. Traffic movement slowed considerably on National Highway stretches and other key arterial roads, with vehicles moving cautiously to avoid mishaps. Pedestrians also faced difficulty navigating through the fog-covered streets.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for dense fog in several districts of Odisha, with the alert remaining in effect till February 18, 2026.

Besides Bhubaneswar, dense fog was reported from isolated pockets of Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Puri, Khordha, Dhenkanal and Cuttack districts.

According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, dense fog is very likely to occur at isolated places in Kendrapara, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam and Gajapati districts on February 18 under the yellow warning. Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution while travelling during early morning hours.
