Day Temperatures to Rise Across Odisha, Thunderstorm Activity Likely Later This Week

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Monday forecast a gradual rise in day temperatures across Odisha over the coming days, along with an increase in thunderstorm activity towards the end of the week.
According to the evening bulletin issued at 7:00 PM IST, maximum temperatures across the state ranged between 31°C and 36.6°C, with Paralakhemundi recording the highest at 36.6°C. Bhubaneswar registered 35.8°C, while western districts such as Bhawanipatna and Sambalpur also experienced temperatures above 35°C.

Rainfall activity remained largely subdued across the state, with no significant precipitation reported in most areas. However, Paralakhemundi recorded 16 mm of rainfall between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM.
The IMD stated that an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining regions at an altitude of around 1.5 km above mean sea level. This weather system is influencing conditions over southern and coastal parts of Odisha.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places in districts including Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj over the next two days, while the rest of the state is expected to remain mostly dry.
From March 25 onwards, rainfall activity is likely to shift towards coastal districts such as Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara.
The IMD has issued a Yellow Warning for March 27 and 28, indicating the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph in several districts. Areas likely to be affected include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh.
Day temperatures are expected to rise gradually by 2–4°C over the next four to five days, with no significant change thereafter.
For Bhubaneswar and nearby areas, the forecast indicates a partly cloudy sky over the next 24 hours, with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 35°C and 21°C, respectively.
No weather warning has been issued for fishermen along the Odisha coast for the next five days. The IMD has also indicated no major changes in weather conditions beyond March 30, suggesting a continuation of the current pattern of rising temperatures with localized thunderstorm activity.
